Archipelago - Fine Art Satin Print - A3

€15.00

This work can be viewed as the fracturing of Pangea, the topography emblematic of the indomitable force of nature, encapsulating the earth’s varied colors and textures in imagined landscapes. The organic and synthetic materials form a portrait of the dichotomy between the colossal power of nature and humanity’s chemical reconfiguration of it. We are humbled by nature’s energetic beauty, subject to its whims - yet our civilizations thrive by manipulating it. How do we confront the abuse of our planet? In the cyclical healing of reusing materials? By omitting all synthetic materials? In the gradual integration of regenerative practices? Archipelago stands at the precipice; just as land masses reconfigured themselves over 150 million years ago, so too will humanity’s relationship with nature.

The artist collected most materials from various sources. The granite and asphalt are from the streets of Barcelona, and the sand and rocks are from Southern California’s natural landscapes. The wooden board on which it is built is from a construction site in the same building as the artist’s studio. And the rich pools of turquoise (inks and paints from traditional art shops) were meticulously layered to create the depth depicted in this final image.
