Duel Interno - Fine Art Eco Tote - FAIRTRADE® certified
Kassy Kova’s diptych was inspired by hand-carved wooden sculptures that her mother brought back from Côte d'Ivoire. They are meant to represent the masculine and feminine, but the artist interpreted their opposition as the duality of two races, which can often feel like a duel that bursts within. Her biracial experiences fuse the sinuous lines, delineating what orbits the figures but is often unseen.
These works are some of her first paintings, playing in the garage during the pandemic, exploring my mixed-race identity and multicultural heritage. West African imagery continues to serve as inspiration for her current practice, which celebrates ancestral heritage and cosmic connections.
