Figure 8s (detail) - Fine Art Eco Tote - FAIRTRADE® certified
€24.00
Kassy Kova's mixed media painting, Figure 8s, was an impulsive dance of layers and materials, resulting in three skaters skating through a chaotic cosmos, gliding through - and blinded by - time. Some of you know that the artist used to be a competitive ice dancer, then a professional figure skater, performing for audiences around the world. One of the exercises she used to practice was called Figure 8s, where the skater would do crossovers in one direction for a full circle, then cross the ice and do them in the other.
Figure 8s attempts to untangle the concept of time and how our modern worlds have structured them, pressuring individuals to fill them up with business at every waking moment, running around in circles, first in one direction, then another, feeling all that movement is leading them somewhere. The shards of glass flying through space to allude to a greater chaos experienced by women and people of color, who have often had to bear the brunt of humanity’s biased perceptions and convoluted class systems. Time after time, we’re just skating through that chaos, trying to dodge those flying shards.
This tote is not only art you can carry—it is a socially responsible choice. Crafted from Better Cotton® and FAIRTRADE® certified, it honors both earth and humanity. Every stitch supports ethical labor, reduced environmental impact, and a more intentional way of living.
