Glacial Melt - Fine Art Eco Tote - 100% Organic Cotton

€28.00

This work aims to encapsulate the detrimental practice of colonialism and emphasizes how these destructive practices have cultivated the current hyper-exploitative capitalist systems of today, at the cost of our environment and the indigenous communities that inhabit them.

The work alludes to the trauma of getting torn away from one’s native land, linking the violence of the Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade and the colonial empires that propelled it with the current political strife that continues this narrative, in the form of genocide, imperial expansion, and exceptionalism.

Without relying on any reference, I painted this abstract landscape purely from memory, intuition, and ancestral connection. The form does not represent one particular country or land mass, rather, it attempts to see the Earth as a body, equally susceptible to violence as our human ones. Still, I cling to hope by placing a found hand-painted bamboo totem at the top of the painting as a symbol of unity and resilience, upending the notion “us” and “them” and subverting it with a notion of “one”.

This tote is not only art you can carry, it is a socially responsible choice. It is a commitment to an ethical supply chain and environmental impact.
